The High Street in Exeter has over 800 years of building history. I have tried to show some of the architectural variety through the ages. Fifty percent of the High Street was destroyed during the raids of WW2. The city council destroyed another fifty percent of what was left. The mid century buildings of red brick blocks replacing some lovey old buildings from our past. Some facades were kept and added to replacement premises. You will notice reacuring images of modern works, including Michael Fairfax’s silver sculpture ( 2005) and the Large face mural by Alexandro Farto (2011) plus the the modern John Lewis building.
The reflections also show this history and the people around it with fashions constantly changing.
Exeter has a good and active shopping centre and these photographs show the usual modern day activities.
